Keep your board looking beautiful for years.
A well-oiled board is a happy board. This food-grade mineral oil soaks deep into the timber to nourish the wood, bring out the richness of the grain and help protect it from drying out, cracking and absorbing moisture.
It’s clear, odourless and tasteless, so it won’t affect your food. It’s also non-drying and won’t go rancid like cooking oils such as olive or vegetable oil can. It’s the simplest way to keep your chopping boards, butcher blocks, serving boards and wooden utensils in top condition.
How to use
- Make sure your board is clean and completely dry.
- Pour a little oil onto the surface and rub it in with a soft cloth, following the grain.
- Leave it to soak in for a few hours, or ideally overnight.
- Wipe off any excess the next day, and your board is ready to use.
For best results, oil your board before first use, then every few weeks, or whenever the wood starts to look dry or pale.

Questions, answered
End grain or edge grain: what's the difference?
End-grain boards are made from blocks with the wood fibres facing up, like the top of a bundle of straws. Your knife slips between the fibres, so they're the gentlest on your blades and hide cut marks well.
Edge-grain boards show the long, flowing grain of the timber. They're lighter, slimmer and easier to move around, which makes them perfect for everyday prep and serving.
Which oil should I use?
Any food-safe board oil or food-grade mineral oil works well. Avoid cooking oils like olive or vegetable oil, as they can turn rancid over time.
Is it safe to cut raw meat on a wooden board?
Yes. Wash the board with hot soapy water straight after use and dry it standing upright. Many cooks keep one board for raw meat and another for fruit, vegetables and bread.
Can I put my board in the dishwasher?
Please don't. The heat and water in a dishwasher can warp or crack natural timber. A quick hand wash and dry is all it needs.
Will my board look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but not identical. Every board is cut from natural timber, so the grain and colour are unique to your piece.
Does it make a good gift?
A beautiful board is a gift that gets used every single day. If you're buying for Christmas, order early so it arrives in time.
